The new KAYA Smart Logbook turns your climbing history into useful, personalized guidance, helping you decide what to climb, understand how your sessions are going, and make informed training decisions over time.

It is designed to support climbers of all levels, whether you are following a structured training plan, working with a coach, returning from an injury, chasing a new grade, or simply trying to have a great session at the gym.

Recommendations Built Around Your Climbing

The Smart Logbook uses your climbing history, current readiness, recent activity, and top grades to better understand where you are as a climber.

Before a session, you can check in and share information such as:

  • How you slept
  • How your body feels
  • Your energy level
  • Your mood
  • Where you are climbing
  • Your goals for the session
  • Any additional notes or context you want to provide

KAYA combines that information with your logged climbing history to generate suggestions that are relevant to you that day.

The goal is not to tell you exactly what you must do. It is to give you a thoughtful starting point based on how you are feeling, what you have been climbing, and what you want to accomplish.

Playlists Built for the Gym You’re Climbing In

Because KAYA already connects climbers with the climbs available at their gyms, the Smart Logbook can go beyond generic workout recommendations.

Its climb suggestion engine can recommend actual climbs at the gym you are visiting and organize them into personalized playlists.

Depending on your goals and current form, a playlist might help you:

  • Warm up progressively
  • Build power or endurance
  • Practice a particular movement style
  • Explore climbs you may have overlooked
  • Find problems near your current grade
  • Try something challenging without overdoing it
  • Enjoy a varied, engaging session

Instead of receiving a workout that says “climb five difficult boulders,” you can receive a playlist of specific climbs available at your gym that fit the purpose of the workout.

Understand Every Session More Clearly

After your session, the Smart Logbook can create a personalized summary using the information from your check in, the climbs you logged, your session activity, and any notes you add.

Your summary can help you reflect on questions such as:

  • Did the session match your original goal?
  • How did sleep, mood, or physical readiness affect your climbing?
  • What styles or grades felt especially strong?
  • Where did you struggle?
  • Are there patterns developing across multiple sessions?
  • What might be worth focusing on next?

Over time, the Smart Logbook can help you see relationships between your training, recovery, mindset, and performance that may otherwise be difficult to recognize.

Not Built to Replace a Coach

The Smart Logbook is not a coach, nor should it be treated as such.

Great coaches offer judgment, accountability, technical expertise, empathy, and an understanding of the whole athlete that technology alone cannot reproduce. KAYA’s role is to help climbers and coaches organize better information, identify useful patterns, and make the day-to-day training process easier.

If you work with a coach already, it may be valuable to share your Smart Logbook with them so the two of you can review and interpret your training history together. Your coach can add context to your notes, contribute guidance to the information used by the Smart Logbook, and help direct the kinds of suggestions and recommendations you receive over time.

You Control Your Experience

Participation in KAYA generated summaries and recommendations is optional.

Climbers who do not want to use these features can turn them off, and KAYA will honor that choice.

You remain in control of what information you provide, which features you use, and how the Smart Logbook supports your climbing. The feature is designed to be helpful without being intrusive, and to give each climber the ability to choose the experience that feels right for them.

Special Thanks

The Smart Logbook has been shaped through years of learning, experimentation, conversation, and feedback from across the climbing community.

We are especially grateful to our beta testers, whose product feedback and participation in usability research helped us understand what was useful, what was confusing, and how the Smart Logbook could better fit into the reality of a climbing session.

Most importantly, we are grateful to every climber and coach who has trusted KAYA with feedback, challenged our assumptions, and helped us imagine better tools for the climbing community. This feature is stronger because of your contributions, and we look forward to continuing to develop it together.
